hello.
was been playing with my new nquake install for a few days on various servers
recently noticed that i stopped downloading specific character skins

started my own teamfortress server
but when i connected, i couldn't download or load the skins, say tf_scout couldn't load

so i made four different installs of ezquake on my various computers

now it took quite some fenageling, like deleting config files, renaming config files, and switching to defaults in the menu

and now THREE of my four installs can download the skins, but my fourth cannot. i've tried resetting the settings, and deleting the config files and starting from scratch, but i have the sense that SOMETHING in my ezquake directories has a HIDDEN MEMORY of what went wrong for me to not be able to use skins

i've noticed several discrepancies with saving settings. for instance, sometimes it's reluctant to remember specific binds when i restart it. i think i'm on my way to descovering the binds saving features, but i still can't find a way to tell my fourth ezquake install do be able to download skins from servers...and that leads me to believe that there are even more factors that i haven' tfigured out how to manipulate yet.

any ideas?

here's a thought. if i delete the config.cfg in the qw directory, AND the config.cfg file in the ezquake directory, AND the config.cfg file in the fortress directory, how could i have any binds to begin with once i reload the game.

ooh ooh
while we're at it

in the menu
if my 'enemy skin' setting is blue
i can't seem to null the setting after that

i joined a teamfortress game on the red team, it set the enemy skin as blue

now every enemy i ever fight in quake is blue

i could change them to green, or pink, but i can't set it to whatever the hell they want to look like

hehe, twotone

C:\Documents and Settings\sassa\My Documents <-- there somewere but instead of sassa use twotone or what ever u use

I dunno about TF

you can use the commands and look in your /qw/skin/ folder

teamskin 2_white
enemyskin 2_red

depends on the name of your skins

think i'm almost there, just ONE simple question

how do i set enemyskin to nothing

as in enemyskin [null]

or enemyskin ""

as oppsed to enemyskin base
enemyskin "0.pcx" - what happens when i try setting it to zero

etc

enemyskin "" = it goes to the base skin that is in pak0.pak ? and uses the colors you choose "color 2 4" (2 = down 4=up) or something like that, tired now, zzz time gn

thanx.
i just don't want the config file to mandate what skin i see on my enemys. i think if i leave it at default it'll search for what they've specified themselves.

i'm looking for the consol comand to nullify the choice

enemyskin 0 selects 0.pcx

enemyskin null selects null.pcx

enemyskin cancel selects cancel.pcx etc.

i just want to tell it not to look for anything. not sure how.

well, for those of you who are interested

the problem was in the 'fortress' directory itself
i'm not sure where it was

but once i replaced the 'fortress' directory with a fresh one, all i had to do was set noskins to 0

i guess SOMETHING...i'm not sure what it was since i had no config.cfg file in the fortress directory, was telling my ezquake not to download skins...weird

it still worries me that i don't know where in ezquake to fix this problem, or even where this problem lies
