will make an official release when I've tested it out some more....

please test it out yourselves.

Seems to work well. I'm going to a LAN in just over a week, so this is a great way to get people to join in on the QW action.

for all you linux people wanting to give suggestions:

i'm mainly interested in suggestions on the actual package, not the installer.

the installer works fine as it is - if it doesn't WORK, please tell me what's wrong and how I can fix it

i would greatly appreciate if _SOMEONE_ could try nquake for linux out, and just tell me if it works or not (that is, the package, not the installer - i know the installer works).

i have limited resources for testing linux stuff.

Ok ok.

The textfiles for the maps are missing. That seems not to be Linux-specific though.
Quite a lot of the text files (.cfg etc) are listed as various formats (not a big problem I think):
Quote:
hannes@debian:~/tmpmnt/nquake/ezquake/cfg$ file *
cams.cfg: ASCII C++ program text, with very long lines, with CRLF line terminators
cams.tcl: ASCII English text, with CRLF line terminators
eq260.cfg: data
ezhud.cfg: ASCII C++ program text, with very long lines, with CRLF line terminators
gfx_gl_eyecandy.cfg: ASCII text, with CRLF line terminators

The qwz demos cannot be opened from within ezquake.

I don't know what ezquake offers for it, but it would be nifty to offer a "system-wide" installation too that installs into those /usr/local (or whatever) directories and stores user-related configs etc into ~/.ezquake
I am one of those users who dump everything into their home directores, but I guess some would like it.

Also maybe add a prompt for pak1.pak and copy it from the specified location.

pak1.pak finding is a good idea

can't open qwz demos?

demos are publicly readable
qizmo is publicly executable
config specifies correct directories

what can be wrong?

minor things like configs containing CRLF line terminators feels like very low priority, as the main objective is to get a working nquake installation

but what is missing? i've used the ezquake zip downloaded from ezquake sf project.

so basically, did it work? could you play a game with it? this was mostly what i was interested in hearing

The textfiles that accompany the maps are what's missing (hi, it's my favorite topic).

No idea about the qizmo/qwz stuff. It just says "Error: Couldn't open /home/hannes/tmpmnt/nquake/qw/demos/tricks/dm2_bunny_to_gl.qwz"
Probably a ezquake bug on handling the qizmo or passing the path.

the text file thing won't happen, nquake is about being clean and nice - text files in maps dir are just the opposite imo

apparently qwz doesn't work in linux

so this is my todo for weekend:

* add pak1.pak finder
* convert demos to qwd
* make nquake record qwd demos instead of qwz
* remove qizmo
* change default install path to ~/nquake

"nquake is about being clean and nice"

use pk3 modules then.. you can include the txt files in the pk3 along with the maps so it won't look "just the opposite"

linux version released
os x version released
cd-rom generator released

nquake.com/org/net will be HOSTED at sourceforge within a few days, as opposed to being redirected there with a stupid frame...

will iron out the last remaining bugs over the next couple of days/weeks, i sure hope there are none though

damnit, there were a few bugs in there...

* fixed the bug that messed up the installer after selecting mirror
* fixed the bug that exited the installer when downloading outdated distfiles
* added a few checks so the installer doesn't do something it's not supposed to do, under certain circumstances

weird changelog, but yeah this is it.

v1.1 coming tomorrow

Maybe it's whining about nothing... but when I start nquake, both 1.8 and 1.9a, and type 1on1 and after that, type ffa... the clock doesn't work

I don't really care but thought I should mention it anyway.

BTW: I forgot to mention that I'm really happy with this new 1.8 version... nice to see you've included these new weapon skins, including HUD weapon icons.

And thanks for fixing the ffa mapcycle too - I haven't cycled all maps yet, but so far so good
