Quakedress, the colours you wear when you go play quake?
People all wear different kind of colours yes? I call it a dress just because....well, dunno, just because.

NetQuake is the good old normal Quake.
It's slower then QW en the play style is completely different. Or rather was. There is a handfull players left now on NetQuake or maybe a bit more, but most are playing more the rougher QW style it seems.
NetQuake used to be very polite. Camping was NOT done, you would get kicked or banned for that, and respawnfragging also not, let alone chatfrags. When one respawned you wait till he got a weapon before you kill him and damaging yourself so you can steal RA while you already was fully packed was considered to be very lame. Any changes on quake would be considered cheats. Quad and Pent was only for pussies, and on most servers it was off anyways.
So normal quake was very pure, and you had to work for a frag.
In QW you have to work to respawn since on almost any respawnpoint there will be some .... *takes a deep breathe*..... some... player.... (notice how i not say bloody camper) who will instantly kill you before you even had the chance to move one finger.
Aaaaaanyways, the differences between EZQuake and NQuake I don't know.
I play QW for about a year or so now, and I do use EZQuake. Never had a decent look at nquake tbh. Too technical.

I guess nquake IS ezquake, but ... i have no clue.
netquake sounds cool but I rather stick to ezquake. I use the mac version so it looks a bit different than the pc version, but plays great.
i see now what u mean by quakedress hehe

The difference is this:

Netquake = normal Quake 1, with unmodified physics. There are clients for this, like ProQuake and Qrack.
QuakeWorld is modified physics, and optimized online play (lag compensation) as I understand it.

That's why I prefer QuakeWorld, because it enables me play online without too much lag. Otherwise I would definitely also play Netquake, that has fun mods like RuneQuake (new powerups, just like the Lithium mod for Quake3).

Speedrunners consider QuakeWorld a cheat and don't use it to speedrun quake, because the physics (the way the virtual quake-world reacts on your movement) are not like normal quake anymore. That's why they use JoeQuake (unmodified physics) and not Ezquake.

Nquake is a package to ensure easy installation of quakeworld. It contains the Ezquake client, maps, skins, bots, etc. Nquake is not a client in itself.

In europe people play more QW and in America, they play more Netquake. I've spectated some netquake games and it looked great to me. A client like Qrack has very nice graphics... the feel of it is much warmer then in Ezquake. But like I said, the online playability of Ezquake is so much better. I hope Netquake also gets a good lag-compensation system for Netquake, then I might play that too, if there are servers in Europe.

Yeh there is one in Belgium, Flanders, who has an FFA server, a Coop server and hmm... something else, Rune I think.
And there is Euroquake server, I think its hosted in Germany now.
And there was one in sweden called BlackHat, but that seems to be disappeard since a few days.
And there is the Clair servers.
I think the rest is in America.
But I am probably not all up to date with my servers.
I play mostly only on Flanders and/or Euro.

Buuuuuuuut take a look at that!!
Woohoo.
http://carolmulder.web-log.nl/photos/uncategorized/2008/03/20/bizbamboo1.jpg

I made a cartoon for BizWiser, what they made a card of and I got a Bamboo for it! That is so cool. So I am busy trying to learn how the tablet works.
Imagine all the advantages for making quick doodles with it and easy changes on doodles or illustrations.
Imagine how much GGRRRR that will safe me.
http://carolmulder.web-log.nl/photos/uncategorized/2008/03/20/tabargh1.jpg

But for now I keep hanging in the ARGH bits a bit for being too impatient and wanting to know everything and all of in- and outside of the tablet. What of course not is possible. It takes time and practise.

Ok so I did try to Quake with the pen.
Absolutely no success that.
I could respawn and shoot but further it kept spinning around as if i was in the washingmachine.
Think I'll just stick to the mouse now.

Yes, and imagine that you've made lot's of cool things with that pen and then your computer crashes

Buy an external harddisk, Buur - For easy backups! Including a backup for Quake! I got a copy of my quake folder on the external drive. If needed I can just copy them back with all my files and settings intact. Great. No more re-installing!

Ah yeh no but, I do have already two disks. And a back up. And maybe even a ghost, but im not sure of that. hahhahaha.
Nah I feel a lot more relaxed with the new computer now.
Since I have it, I not have been crashing once! (knock knock)
So far I have GREAT fun with the drawing tablet. But not with photoshop. I can't figure out how that all works.
Sooooo, I'm fiddling with paint still.
At least that works with little icons that just show the tool that you can or want to use. That's a lot better then the zillions of WEIRD words photoshop is showing in thousands of menus or weird always in the way pop up little windows with santa knows what kind of strange tools behind the alien words.
So eh.... heh. Dunno. Not sure I will ever get to be a genious with digital drawing then.

I work with photosohp a lot. It's great really, but you want to use it in another manner. For that pure drawing/artistic thing, there might be more suitable programs out there. Easier to understand. However, there are lot's of photoshop tutorials on internet.

I haven't tried it, but perhaps ArtRage is something for you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArtRage

http://www.ambientdesign.com/artragefeatures.html

Here's their forum with user paintings:
http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=c70e770ca64a825581947b3b44429daa

If I would be painting on a computer, I'd love to try it out.

Read more about digital painting with some more url's to other software:

Ur welcome

I liked to draw when I was a kid. At some point, I switched to music and dropped the drawing thing. But sometimes I feel like picking it up again. When I do, I'd probably give that ArtRage a go myself. It looks really nice and easy and for just $25. But first I'll need a good pen/tablet. I already bought one years ago but in comparison with what is out there these days, mine is a bit crappy.

I have not the most top of the bill one for drawing either now.
This is the bamboo.
It's pretty small, but I thought for just trying out it would be more then ok. Now I can see if I really can get used to it for doodling and cartoon-style drawings, trying out compositions or things like that. My real works I will keep making on paper. That's the real thing for me.
If I really do like the tablet, and I can only tell that after at least 6 months use I think, then I would go for an Intuos 3 on A4 size. But at the other hand, I might just decide to stick to this for it being enough for quick doodles and sketches, or I might decide to go back to paper for not getting used to the weirdness of eye-hand coördination when not looking at my hand and paper whats happening or where to go to. This feels a bit like drawing in the sky with eyes closed.

Yes it's different indeed, but from the looks of some digital art work I've seen, it's possible to make beautiful things anyway.

AAaaaaanyways, for different kind of fun, let me show what I fiddled more.
Still with paint, but ah well.
I have too much fun for fiddling with it to want to dive deeper into more specialized thingies.
Some day I will.

Things quickly get stiff with the digital things.
Not sure yet how to work more loose with the colouring in.
I'm sure there is ways, even in paint, to do something about that.
Ah well.
The most stiff is my pinky. Heh. Still.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/lavavahmpy/P7200011.jpg

it's a kind of surrealistic landscape

*Tip:
DON'T use black in your paintings! The color is too hard and way too much. Rather mix your colors to a very dark one if you need to create dark areas in your painting. Nothing around you is totally black you see, it always has a little grey, green, blue, purple or whatever in it. (Ofcourse use black if you're just doing cartoons, or whatever).
