T&T#4 Getting help
I remember so much different the internet back in 1997. I printed all the quake's console commands and studied them. The config was simple and straightforward. Everything was new, even the internet.
Today is so much different. Its literally the information age.
Same for QuakeWorld. You need help? Most of the questions is already answered. You just have to know where to look.
ezQuake web and in game help
ezQuake has some commands that will help you.
  • cvarlist
This will print every cvar available. what is awesome is that you can filter the output, using * wildcard.
    example: cvarlist *force*
will list every command which has "force" in the name. You get it.
  • describe <command>
This will describe what a given command does.
    example: describe enemyforceskins
  • aliaslist
same as cvarlist but for alias. It will list all the configured aliases. You can also filter the output.
    example: aliaslist rl
will list every alias which has "rl" in the name. Doesn't need wildcard.
  • help
displays the old community-written game manual "Quakeworld for freshies" which is available online as well.
  • EzQuake documentation
ezQuake's website has a compreensive manual. Give it a try - 99% of everything you can do in the client is described there. A priceless resource!

Help on IRC
You probably already know where to ask for help, but here goes: you can ask in #qwrookie or #quakeworld
To connect to irc, simply click on the big green CHAT button on the bottom of this page.
We have some bots on irc, which can help you also.
  • QuakeWorld bot
This is mainly a news-spam bot, but you can also use the cvarlist and describe commands mentioned above. You just have to add "!" (exclamation point)
    example: !cvarlist force
will list every command which has "force" in the name. Doesn't need the *
    example: !describe enemyforceskins
  • qwbot bot
You can use it to scan, list, search servers and qtv. Great!
All the info is at the bot homepage

Google
Google is your friend. There are somethings you can do to narrow the search. For example, using the site: prefix
Example of search string: site:http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/ dithes hud
this will look on the quakeworld.nu forum for the keywords "dithes hud".

Other Example: site:http://ezquake.sourceforge.net/docs/ mp3]
this will look into ezquake documentation for the keyword mp3.

If you're looking for a map, add the suffix .bsp (the file's extension).
Example of search string: doomed.bsp
