Nations Cup Round 2 Results
09 Feb 2009 @ 23:14 by cz JohnNy_cz
Scores from Sunday are up on the QuakeWorld Nations Cup 2009 Website

Let's recapitulate them here briefly. Total 4 matches were played...

Denmark vs. Hungary
First round was all in hands of the Hungarian Slacker ]SR[zero, where he secured very confident victory for his team. Second map (e1m2) surprisingly didn't go so well for the Hungarians, even though last week they put up a good fight there. Third round (dm2) was totally under control of another Slacker's member ]SR[ParadokS and thanks to his perfect Quad-runs (except one classical bore-against-the-wall) Denmark won this deciding round and so the result is 2:1 for Denmark.

Netherlands vs. Sweden
Teams which won medals in last QWNC met in this match and very close games were played. Quads in dm3 played in the hands of the Netherlands, second round was cmt3 where despite reppie's and murdoc's very good performance the Sweden won. In e1m2 vast majority of the Quads was taken by Sweden and also thanks to this they won this map too, winning the whole match 2:1

Finland vs. Czech Republic
While there was a slight chance for Czechs to get a few frags in the first round, which was e1m2, QWNC champions Finland totally locked down the second map, dm2 right from the start, and didn't let the Czechs do absolutely anything in here to stop the insane speed of Finnish fragging. Devastating 2:0 win for Finland with a "hardly to believe" score in the second round.

Russia vs. Germany
Russia confirmed they are in the top shape and won both rounds with a large margin, even if the Germans managed to create some small resistance in the second round - dm2. It will be interesting to see if Russia will be able to reach medal positions this year.

That FI/CZ dm2 is one of the craziest things I've ever seen, and I don't even think that was FI at full strength.

Nice review...I stopped Quake but as a fan, sometimes I read what is happening around.

It's a pity Russia got fullstart on both maps. I mean we would have lost anyway, but the frag margin on dm2 doesn't really reflect the skill difference. Ah well... more luck vs Poland hopefully!
