Since people seem to be interested in running the alpha version of ezQuake 1.9, I made a small script that builds nightly builds:
http://uttergrottan.localghost.net/ezqu … tlybuilds/
Used 7zip for optimal compression: http://www.7-zip.org/
Please notice that these builds are still under heavy development/change, so backing up your cfg and such before using them is recommended. Please report any bugs in #ezquake or submit a bug tracker => http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_i … tid=678559
Update: There are now also Linux builds available made by Localghost

i dont know a lot about 7zip, but is the compression really optimal?

7zip is the best compression available pretty much, and open source...
(Best compression)
Original: 2306KB
ZIP: 1142KB

Cokeman,
Should we use this thread for bug report of the alpha builds?

But aren't each and every followed by singular? It is in French if I remember correctly
http://www.bartleby.com/64/C001/027.html wrote:
1. Grammar: Traditional Rules, Word Order, Agreement, and Case
§ 27. every
Every is representative of a large class of English words and expressions that are singular in form but felt to be plural in sense. The class includes, for example, noun phrases introduced by every, any, and certain uses of some. These expressions invariably take a singular verb; we say Every car has (not have) been tested. Anyone is (not are) liable to fall ill. But when a sentence contains a pronoun that refers to a previous noun phrase introduced by every, grammar and sense pull in different directions. The grammar of these expressions requires a singular pronoun, as in Every car must have its brakes tested, but the meaning often leads people to use the plural pronoun, as in Every car must have their brakes tested. The use of plural pronouns in such cases is common in speech, but it is still widely regarded as incorrect in writing. 1
The effort to adhere to the grammatical rule causes complications, however. The first is grammatical. When a pronoun refers to a phrase containing every or any that falls within a different independent clause, the pronoun cannot be singular. Thus it is simply not English to say Every man left; he took his raincoat with him. Nor can you say No one could be seen, could he? If you are unwilling to use plural forms in these examples, you must find another way of expressing your meaning, either by rephrasing the sentence so as to get the pronoun into the same clause (as in Every man left, taking his raincoat with him) or by substituting another word for every or any (as in All the men left; they took their raincoats with them). 2
The second complication is political. When a phrase introduced by every or any refers to a group containing both men and women, what pronoun should you use? Consider the example Every person in this office must keep track of his (her? his or her? their?) own expenses. This matter is discussed at he under Gender.
Hope it's right now!
And thx for the tip!

It is not actually optimal. I remember reading an article that actually compared all of the popular archiving programs against each other in an unbiased format, and 7-zip was pretty average as far as compression goes, there were others that compressed far better on average. In my own personal observation, it scales about as well as WinRAR, getting slightly better filesizes on average in return for taking slightly longer to compress and decompress.
However, deciding on which compression to use in your program should not soley be decided on how well it compresses. It should be based on a combination of things, like how well it compresses, how fast it is, what licence you're looking for, how wide of a standard it is, and what you're looking to do with it. If there was one 'easy answer' for compression, we would all be using that. There are, after all, dozens of other options out there.
Personally, I'm a big fan of 7-zip because it's the most popular free software compression archive on windows, and because it compresses about as well as RAR while at the same time being free software.

7zip is way better than everything else when compressing different versions of roms

if this is in reference to zip support added to 1.9, then please note we urge you not to compress your zip files, but to select storage (or package) so ezquake loads faster. All zip files that come with ezquake will be like this, and QRP in the future will release packages in uncompressed zip files. Most people have the space these days, so speed > space

What's up with the ezquake svn repository? I can't access it on sourceforge any longer, I only see the top bar.
Is anyone having problems playing ezquake under Windows 7 RC ? The resolution isn't stretched properly so half the screen is cropped. Any help would be greatly appretiated

After few minutes of thinking what the hell you asking about, i finally got it. You complain that your fresh and shiny IE8 renders sourceforege.net SVN page incorrectly. But why you asking us about it here? Isnt forums of M$ or SF.NET are more preferable places?
Try modern (added: and good) browsers like opera or firefox.

ie8 is modern... but not the good kind

AAS, who the hell said I was using IE8? I've been an avid Opera supporter since 1997! (Something I'm proud of) And yeah, I've tried accessing the Sourceforge SVN in Firefox\IE and Opera, none of them works. Anyway, I can access the repository through; http://qw-dev.net/projects/ezquake/activity
And I was asking here because I thought I would get an intelligent and polite answer, I guess I was wrong.

Calm down, dude.
It is obvious, that there is 3(actually 2) main possible sources of problem: your ISP, windows7rc that breaks sf.net svn page under ie/ff/opera, tricky problems with your rig (firewall/router/whatever). In fact, problems with rendering of certain www page in all browsers cannot be affected by the operation system you use (i hope so), try to visit this page using an http proxy servers (like www.65db.info) or different ISP and/or OS. If problem still persist, clearly your ISP and/or OS(how can it be?) doing something wrong. And, yeah, don't forget about problem #3.
Here is a sshot of ezquake's svn (viewvc) title page rendered using ie8+win7(build 7231): http://i41.tinypic.com/ogu4j.jpg
