The other night I fired up quake trying to connect to a server, it took forever so i went to disconnect and go elsewhere, but found that i had a typing lag of like 1 character a second appearing.. so i rebooted in frustration.. now.. quake wont even load !

GL quakeworld
loads to a black screen and doesnt do anything else (can end process)

SW quakeworld
loads to normal screen, but has the wierd mega lag

Quake 3
blue console does its thing, then nothing happens, except having the process running gives the big typing lag to any other programm (msn, notepad etc)

I have scanned for all forms of malware, reinstalled drivers, and hell I did a system restore to last week and that didnt even fix it !.. The wierdest thing is that every other game runs perfectly... not a problem.. not yet at least.. so I was thinking the quake games use something that has crashed.. in hardware?.. open gl.. i dont know, spent most of today trying to fix the problem but now I have to find out if anyone else has experience a similar problem before, helpp mee plz

doom 3 & quake 4 don't load either, they do the same thing as q3

gf 6600 gt
running windows xp pro sp2

I haven't heard of your problem, but have you tried with third party drivers for your geforce ?

ah thanks guys installing those drivers seems to have resolved it!!
