First off, I just installed nQuake after several months away from all forms of Quake, and I am having a blast. Some people are playing ffa stateside and it's really fun. It's cool how easy it is to customize skins and weapon configs with the gui. Buuuuut

I am having a problem. I am playing on my 16:10 widescreen lcd (yeah, I know, a year ago I wouldn't have even tried this). I can get my custom resolution going through -width and -height, but for some reason, the color seems to be in 16bit or less.

I can't change the color depth in the GUI because it will change the resolution with it, and you can't select widescreen resolutions in the gui. So that's out.

I can't even change it in my config.

vid_depthbits "32"
vid_stencilbits "32"
vid_colorbits "32"

That's what's in my config but it appears to be having no effect. If worse comes to worse, I guess I can just get used to the grainy color, but I am certain there is a solution somewhere. Any suggestions?

OK, I have a clue. This is a problem with id games; happens when you use custom resolutions with the incorrect refresh rate. However, now I can't seem to change my refresh rate. Even setting it to 0 or blank will keep the "current value" as 75, and the latched value as 0 or blank. Gaaah so annoying.

Try vid_restart
Also thanks for the tip, solved my 16bit colors problem too :-)

If I have these commands in a config or the command line, and start the game, isn't loading a map the same as vid_restart? (because loading up the game, dm6, then vid_restart doesn't work either)

OK. I fixed the problem of the colorbits not working as they should, but there is a larger problem that I don't know how to solve. What was happening, was that config.cfg (or default.cfg, whichever it's called) wasn't updating itself when I exited the game. What's even more weird is that it was "selective" about what it kept and what it threw out -- it kept my controls, for instance, but threw out almost everything else. Really weird. At least I have it working now.

Cheers, back to the game, I guess.

Stencil bits can be only 8 bits, not 32.

how come low HZ would help on that? 60hz or less is AWFUL on lcd.. seems like i'm playing at 30fps.. ( already played on two different lcd i own, from different manufactorers ) .. and now i got a 16:10 i happen to notice that image on qw is a bit more pale and got less contrast ( altought my new tft has way more contrast than the previous 17' 5:4 ).

Im posting this for the general public. Quite alot of people seem to have the same issue, so it might be good to work on it.

Seems vid_displayfrequency is a root of problems.
I have 19" 5:4 LCD monitor and colors are always a bit greeny when vid_displayfrequency != 60.
Mine do no spaek engrish!
