Empezar,

Adding demos is a great idea, but please don't add more than 1-2 of the best (maybe one 1on1 and one 4on4. This will give newbies just a small taste and leave them wanting more, which will in turn encourage them to visit forums and websites regarding Quake.

Also, please don't include several clients or several different texture packs for the same maps, etc. This will only add on to the file size and confuse the newbies.

please, let's comment one of the demos and use echo comment_1, comment_2, comment_3 (I mean play comment) to explain what's happening in the demo?

you can check nQuake out at http://f.nu/nquake up2

i've just added one of each mode + 1 classic demo (with thresh) so far.

and i've only included ezquake, and cleaned up the quake directory a LOT, so the confusion lessens when they don't install start menu items.

check it out yourself

BTW. the current installer puts pak0.pak in id1 folder, it's SUPPOSED to move pak0.pak to qw directory and remove ID1 directory, to make the quake dir more clean.

i'm gonna work more on nQuake on sunday, so keep posting suggestions! (I'm not at work until sunday, and i can only work on nquake while im at work)

i've also only included one bot, which is the DEFAULT mod when starting quake

so someone wanting to play with bots can just type "bot", and then like "1on1" or "2on2"..

i'm gonna work some more on making it even simpler.

http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7855/ezquake000largemediumou9.jpg

this happens when i type /map <anymap>

also.. i don't agree with some things used
- default resolution should be 1024x768 since it's more common
- crosshair should be something not ripped off from other games (Doom3)
- the WAD textures aren't quakish
- qizmo_dir should be "/qw/qizmo" => one less directory to be confused about in the root
- bmodels textures for health boxes aren't faithful (and they are fugly IMHO)
- config isn't saved on exit (many newbies are annoyed by this.. they expect that settings to be saved on exit)

do you mind if i propose a variation of an nQuake install?

edit:

things needed to be changed in the default config:
- cl_fakeshaft "1" (fakeshaft 0 makes the game look really jerky and old)
- scr_consize "0.5" (leave it as default, instead of "0.4"
- gl_detail "0" (1 makes textures look like old deteriorated cardboard.. yuck! leave it as default, "0"
- the smoke from r_rockettrail "3" looks too heavy in fights, use "7" since it's more reasonable for visibility and FPS
- gl_contrast "1.3" (default) instead of 1.2

use the config from my package in general since i passed it around to many beginners and nobody complained

ok..
made an archive with a nQuake install wannabe

differences:
- Deurk's HUD (green borders and democlock/armordamage text are from /hud_editor mode!)
- replaced WAD textures with more faithful ones
- replaced bmodels textures with QRP ones
- added a few more maps (ztndm3q, ztndm6, qcon1, shine, cpm1qw, cpm3qw, cpma3a, debello, oldcrat, q3dm6ish, vdm3v3)
- qizmo_dir moved from root to /qw/qizmo
- replaced fragfile.dat with a modified version by me, because the one that comes with EZ has some issues (if you die in lava it says in r_tracker messages "X drown" instead of "X fried" etc.)
- replaced and deleted some skins
- added missing textures from aerowalk (since the QRP project doesn't have all the base textures done)
- replaced doom3 crosshair with crosss.png (by Ironman)
- workaround to missing model spawn server error (copied grenade.mdl as end2/3/4.mdl, laser.mdl)
- workaround for not being able to play demos (copied grenade.mdl as b_s_key.mdl, b_g_key.mdl)

- tweaked default config & bindlist a little:
F2 - toggles team/individual frags on HUD
F4 - toggles flat textures/normal textures

F5 - record demo/stop recording

F6 - cycles enemy skins
F7 - cycles team skins

PGUP - addbot
PGDN - removebot

INS - ready
DEL - break

= - increase volume
- - decrease volume

] - increase gamma
[ - decrease gamma

UPARROW - play demo @ normal speed
DOWNARROW - pause demo
LEFTARROW - slow-mo
RIGHTARROW - fast-forward

(the rest of the binds are on the usual keys for most games: W,A,S,D - movement, TAB - scores, etc.)

other than these changes i tried to keep the same structure as your nQuake folder

done uploading:
http://shub-hub.quaddicted.com/files/misc/nQuake_proposal.rar (60 MB) - needs Pak0.pak copied in /id1/ to work

i've updated the pack with a lot of aquashark's suggestions.

this is my todo list:

- make a good, faithful hud
- add new fragfile.dat (ezQuake's is apparently bugged)
- add aerowalk textures + resize them
- add new qrp textures + resize them
- resize bmodel textures
- create new installer graphics
- create a simple homepage with hosting on sf.net

when you die in lava it says:

player drown

when r_tracker_frags is 1. "drown" should be "fried"

hmmm.. the demos currently included cannot be played without pak1.pak

so i guess 1on1, 2on2, 4on4 demos from e1m2 OR custom maps (preferably maps that are included with nquake)

i'm thinking about renaming this pack

probably NAC

as in Nquake Ain't a Client

getting kinda tired of saying "nQuake is not a client" everytime someone gets told to download nquake
or fQuake, or eQuake... etc

this way i'm not using id's registered trademark Quake, either!

hehe nice idea mushi, NIC

however, NAC rhymes with PACK/PAK/PAC which i kinda like

(aquashark, you always forget "i think you should" in your suggestions, that annoys me)
