punbb is really crap in comparison to phpbb3.

sure, phpbb3 is not stable yet, but when it is, you should switch. there are punbb -> phpbb converters.

...and in the meanwhile, we should get the main site going. :p Would probably be a bit of a pain to make the switch too as the main site uses a few features from the forum (the poll, to be more exact).

I hope the forum will be integrated into the mainsite at some point. Can't see any reason to switch to phpbb3 though.

surely you need to quantify that statement? what does phpbb3 have (excluding the active hacking effort, increased bloat, inferior appearance), that we need, and that punbb doesn't?

inferior appearance? i think punbb's appearance is really awkward

phpbb has subforums, a really great feature that punbb doesn't have

you can upload stuff to the forum really easy, which can be good for archiving purposes (links die too quickly)

try phpbb3 out and you'll see how great it is.

oh and i forgot

you can fucking see what posts you've read and what posts you haven't

punbb is disgustingly bad at that, i have to check the dates of latest posts all the time.

In general I don't mind what forum is installed, but I have to agree with Emp at least in one point, the new-post system is totally fucking bugged

So far i had pretty bad experience with this forum so i'd opt for a change. Not sure what forum systems are "on top" at the moment, so i guess my vote goes to phpbb3.
