Yes, it worked, on Amiga 4000 as far as I know, when my mate had one.
Sadly enough I always owned low-end Amigas, such as 500

I think they mean hardware issues, fps, res and so on.

an amiga emulator will use the PC hardware hence giving u alot more FPS.

Heh, there have been many ports of Quake for the Amiga.

The first ports started appearing after the original Quake source code was leaked. I think the first time I saw Quake run on an Amiga was in about 1996. Some guy had a 68040 powered Amiga with a port of Quake done using the leaked source code.

Several ports of Quake based on that leak were made. If I remember correctly, the first "optimised" port was Coolquake (if I remember the name right). I remember when I got my Blizzard 1230 accelerator for my A1200, I think I got something like 5FPS in 320x256 with the smallest window size

Later on there was at least one port done for the PPC accelerators, again using the leaked source code. Fastquake was the name of that, and I think that it to date still outperforms all other Amiga Quake ports.

Clickboom released a commercial Quake port for Amiga (68k only) before the source code was made GPL.

After the source code release, various ports of both Quake and Quakeworld started appearing for the Amiga, 68k and PPC. Probably the only serious one was the one done by Frank Wille. His Quake port is here here and his Quakeworld port is here.

I played Quakeworld on my Amiga 1200 for a long time using Frank Wille's port.

Later on I ported Fuhquake to MorphOS, an Amiga compatible operating system for PowerPC machines. That port can be found here.
