I've updated my textures page. The CTF textures have been merged into a pak with the exmx map texture pak. By combining the two paks I reduced the size (repeat textures) and I also compressed the textures into jpg format. Qrack supports jpg textures and from the standpoint of my textures there is no drawback in them being in jpg format. Remember that digital photos are jpgs...so the quality is really not a problem. The total size of the map texture pak is 40 megs. This is much reduced from my huge paks prior to this release.

The update also includes NEW Quake Retexturing Project textures that have not been released in a pak from their website, but are viewable on their textures page. I made many corrections to a few of the CTF maps are well. All in all this is a VERY complete texture set that stays VERY true to the original Quake textures provided by the Quake Retexturing Project. I have taken pride in making everything match and look sweet. The pak also includes colored ligthing for some CTF maps and dm6/e4m3, two maps that look really good with colored lighting, but most people may not have the .lit files or know what they are.

I also updated the model texture pak to include my new player skins...These are different than the ones that Yellow and Rook have been handing out and I prefer them. The use of these new player skins is only obtainable with Qrack. My model pak uses to my knowledge the best looking models. I shrunk the size of the CTF flag on public servers. Honestly the CRCTF flag is way too big.

I plan on posting a pak in PNG format for those NOT using Qrack. In most cases that would be for QuakeWorld players, because anyone using a new engine playing NetQuake should and probably is using Qrack. I also have interest in posting a Hi-Res pak, due to the fact that the textures will always look better if they are bigger, even if the difference is negligible. Another thing worth noting is that for those of you who already have a texture pak for the exmx maps, and want a pak only for the CTF maps, you will need to wait for me to post a separate pak. Honestly, to be a facist, I advise that you use this pak and this pak only for the exmx maps. I have spent ALOT of time making this pak for the exmx maps AND the ctf maps, and they really match each other, and match the overall Quake theme. However, I am sure there are a few of you that may like what you currently have better.

Just a couple of minor points. Most qw engines also support jpeg textures (its not just qrack) so your jpeg release will work on qw as it is. However, I think if you are looking to reduce filesizes it would be better reduce the resolution and stick with png images (i.e. 1024x1024 -> 512x512) rather than using jpg.

it must have taken RaRe and I about one full hour of work to get that texture decent. and it's only used in that ONLY map. lol.

Some of those screenshots are old and they don't show the newer textures I was referring to. It's just a pain to take screenshots again.

would be cool if we could have an rsync server for the revitalisation project

e.g. maybe deurk of quakeonline.net could provide one like he did for the KTX map project?

that way updates could be made more frequently with just the changes needing to be downloaded (rather than new 200mb .zip files or 'update' zip files). Moon/RaRe/Ruohis could also more easily 'tweak' their textures with minor changes whenever they like, directly modifying them on the host and us (the clients) can just rsync the changes every now and again.

a big .zip would also be provided for win32 users unwilling/unable to setup rsync

also it probably then makes sense to contact woods and share/store his CTF textures in the same location as they rely on much of the QRP ones

Didn't see that, so sorry for the lack of answer.
Yes I could provide an rsync server

I notice Starbuck released his own rival set of the idbase textures at his booth

Maybe it would make sense to compare those to the QRP ones, and maybe bring him on board to unify things?
